Delhi Police block AIMPLB protest against Waqf Act, Board alleges bias

New Delhi: The Delhi Police refused permission to the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) to hold a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025.
According to Kashmir Media Service, AIMPLB leaders called the denial politically motivated and a breach of democratic rights.
Spokesperson Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani said the protest would have been peaceful and symbolic; Maulana Yasin Ali accused authorities of a double standard against Muslim protests.
The Waqf Amendments Act — enforced on April 8, 2025 — has drawn widespread opposition from Muslim organisations, who say it allows excessive government control over community Waqf properties.
AIMPLB, which has staged protests, seminars and “Black Band Friday” actions since March 2025 and had planned a nationwide ‘Bharat Bandh’ on October 3 (later postponed), vowed to pursue legal remedies.
Leaders including AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi and civil society figures condemned the police decision as discrimination and pledged to continue peaceful resistance while exploring judicial options.
