Protests

Srinagar residents protest poor road construction, demand accountability

Srinagar: In a powerful outpouring of public anger, residents of the Solina area of Srinagar in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir staged a large protest against the use of substandard material in the ongoing macadamization work and the gross mismanagement that has marred the project. The protesters voiced their anger not just over the poor quality of the road construction but also over the blatant negligence and apathy of the authorities involved in the project.

According to Kashmir Media Service, after a staggering 15 years of neglect, the residents’ long-awaited hope for road repair was quickly dashed as the freshly laid roads began to deteriorate within just one day of completion. The situation has left the community in disbelief, as their aspirations for better infrastructure have been shattered by what they see as a flagrant disregard for public welfare.

Locals have pointed to widespread corruption and inefficiency among the officials supervising the work as the root causes of the poor-quality roads. The community has expressed their growing frustration with a system that fails to ensure even basic standards of public service, endangering the lives of citizens who rely on these roads for daily transportation.

“The blacktopping has already started peeling off. This is the height of corruption and malpractice,” said Rouf Bhat, a local resident. “We waited for over a decade for proper road repair, but the work done is of such poor quality that even light vehicle movement is damaging the surface.”

The protesters are demanding immediate accountability, calling for an investigation into what they describe as the “deliberate misuse of public funds.” They have also called for strict action against those responsible for the botched project, warning that the situation could worsen as winter approaches and the already damaged roads deteriorate further.

In the face of persistent negligence and poor governance, the people of Solina are raising their voices not just for quality infrastructure, but for basic accountability from those entrusted with the responsibility of serving the public’s needs.
