MP Er Rashid shifted to Jail No1 after attack inside Tihar jail

Srinagar: Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) leader in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Member of Indian Parliament, Engineer Rashid, has reportedly been shifted to Jail Number 1 in Delhi’s Tihar Prison after he was attacked recently.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the party confirmed that the MP from north Kashmir’s Baramulla constituency was relocated to another block after the assault incident sparked serious security concerns.

The party spokesperson said that Rashid, who has been lodged in Tihar jail, was attacked by some inmates during a routine interaction period.

“The party was deeply disturbed by the reports and demanded an independent inquiry into the incident. This is not just about one individual, it’s about custodial safety and the rights of prisoners under law,” he added.

Er Rashid was elected as an independent MP from Baramulla in the 2024 parliamentary elections while being in custody.
