Mirwaiz urges India to reassess its approach toward Kashmiris

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has said that the Kashmiri people are distressed and powerless as the Indian government also snatched away their internal autonomy in August 2019.

According to Kashmir Media Service, addressing the Friday congregation at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar today, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that continuous raids, arrests, confiscation of properties, dismissal of employees, and the suspension of all fundamental rights, including the right to freedom of expression, have deepened the sense of frustration and resentment among Kashmiris.

He stressed that India must seriously reassess its approach towards Kashmiris. Condoling the loss of innocent lives in the recent New Delhi blast, Mirwaiz said it was deeply regrettable that such incidents are swiftly attributed to a particular religion or community even before facts are established. The sensationalism fuelled by sections of the Indian media, he added, puts Kashmiri students, workers, and professionals across India at heightened risk and insecurity.

Mirwaiz stated that all political and religious organizations in the occupied territory, including his own, have always condemned acts of violence and terrorism. Kashmiris, he noted, are among the first to sympathize with victims of such tragedies, having themselves endured decades of suffering and hardship.

He emphasized that sincere dialogue remains the only viable path to resolving issues.
