Two Christian missionaries booked under Rajasthan’s new anti-conversion law

Jaipur: Police in Rajasthan’s Kota have registered the first case under the state’s newly enacted anti-conversion law, booking two Christian missionaries for allegedly carrying out forced religious conversions during a three-day gathering at Beersheba Church earlier this month.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the accused—Chandi Varghese of Delhi and Arun John of Kota—were detained after Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal officials lodged a complaint accusing them of “allurement-based” conversions during a ‘Spiritual Satsang’ held from November 4 to 6. Police said videos and other material from the event, which was streamed live on social media, were submitted as evidence.
The FIR also alleges the missionaries made derogatory remarks about the Hindu community and termed the Rajasthan government the “devil’s kingdom”. The case has been registered under Section 299 of the BNS for hurting religious sentiments and Sections 3 and 5 of the Rajasthan Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2025.
