Martyrs’ sacrifices have brought Kashmir dispute into global focus: APHC-AJK

Islamabad: A prayer meeting was organised by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter in Islamabad to commemorate the martyrs of the horrific massacres carried out by Indian forces in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the meeting was presided over by APHC-AJK Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi and was attended by Hurriyat leaders, members of civil society and journalists.
The speakers described the month of January as a period marked by brutal military operations and mass killings in occupied Kashmir. They said Indian forces carried out indiscriminate firing on unarmed civilians, torched homes and properties, and martyred hundreds of Kashmiris in Gaw Kadal (1990), Handwara (1990), Sopore (1993) and Kupwara (1994). All these massacres, they noted, occurred during the month of January.
The participants said these gruesome killings of innocent Kashmiris stand as a blot on India’s so-called democracy. They lamented that the criminal silence of the international community has emboldened India to continue atrocities against unarmed people in the occupied territory.
Addressing the participants, Ghulam Muhammad Safi said the great sacrifices of Kashmiri martyrs have brought the Kashmir dispute into sharp global focus. He stressed that Kashmir is an internationally recognised dispute and that lasting peace and stability in the region is impossible without its resolution in accordance with United Nations resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
At the end of the meeting, special prayers were offered for the elevation of the ranks of the martyrs and for the early liberation of occupied Jammu and Kashmir from Indian rule.
