Hindutva mob attacks Muslims, torches homes in Chhattisgarh village
Raipur: A violent Hindutva mob unleashed terror on the Muslim community in Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband district, setting fire to homes, vandalizing property, and causing widespread panic.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the incident, which went on for several hours, took place in Dutkaiya village, where hundreds of attackers, armed with sticks, bricks, stones and kerosene bottles, gathered at the spot and tried to enter the homes of the 10 Muslim families who had locked themselves inside in a desperate bid for safety.
The mob vandalized properties, set vehicles ablaze, and blocked escape routes. Later, the police intervened and managed to shield over two dozen people, including women and children.
A police officer said, “We managed to evacuate the trapped victims, though two adults were injured and six officers were severely hurt. One cop suffered a head injury after being struck by a brick.”
Around 30 people from families affected by the attack managed to reach Raipur, seeking safety and assistance. Victims Zarina Shahnaz and Daulat Bi recounted the terrifying moments, saying that after the initial assault in the village, the mob began gathering rapidly. They said both roads leading to their homes were blocked, leaving them trapped.
“We called the police, but before they arrived, the mob started setting our houses on fire. They assaulted us and burnt our homes. We barely managed to save our lives,” they said. The victims further said that women, children, and elderly people were also beaten during the attack.
