Fresh violence erupts in Manipur, gunfire and arson reported

New Delhi: After a brief 24-hour lull, fresh violence erupted in Manipur’s Litan area of Ukhrul district on Thursday, shattering the fragile peace.
According to Kashmir Media Service, gunshots were exchanged between rival groups, continuing till filing of the report today.
Several houses were set ablaze by militants despite the heavy presence of Indian forces personnel, escalating tension in the area.
The resurgence of violence comes hours after Manipur Chief Minister Y. Khemchand visited Jiribam and met members of the Kuk-Zo-Hmar communities, while Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho reiterated administrative measures concerning the newly formed districts, including Lhungtin Sub Division in Kangpokpi and Phungyar Sub Division in Kamjong.
Curfew remains in force in the affected areas.
The Kuki Christian Church condemned the recent incidents of arson and gunfire as “deeply unfortunate and condemnable,” appealing to all communities to maintain peace.
