Four Kashmiri students injured in Hindutva attack at Rajasthan university

Jaipur: Four Kashmiri students were injured after being violently attacked by Hindutva-affiliated students at Mewar University in Chittorgarh district of India’s Rajasthan state, heightening concerns over the safety of Kashmiri students studying outside Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Kashmiri students told a Srinagar-based news agency over the phone that their degree program is due to conclude in the next four months. However, they recently discovered that Mewar University does not have approval from the Indian Nursing Council and the Rajasthan Nursing Council, casting serious doubts over the legitimacy and future recognition of their degrees.

The students said they organized a peaceful protest to raise their concerns with the university administration. During the demonstration, a group of students from Bihar, reportedly backed by activists linked to the Hindutva outfit Bajrang Dal, launched a violent assault on the protesting Kashmiri students, injuring four of them. The victims further said that the attackers also misbehaved with a Kashmiri female student.

Following the incident, the Kashmiri students said they feel deeply insecure on campus and expressed disappointment over what they described as a lack of meaningful action by the police against those responsible. They have appealed to IIOJK Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene urgently to ensure their safety and safeguard their academic future.
