28-year-old woman gang-raped by 7 men in Assam, police slammed for silence

New Delhi: A gruesome incident has rocked Assam’s Cachar district, where a 28-year-old woman was gang-raped by seven men in front of her boyfriend.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the heinous crime, which took place on February 19, has triggered anger after police initially refused to comment on the issue.
The victim’s ordeal began when she was out with her boyfriend near Silchar town. The accused, who arrived in a car, attacked the couple, extorted money, and brutally raped the woman one by one.
The police have registered a case and arrested two suspects, with efforts underway to catch the others. The victim has undergone a medical examination, and her statement has been recorded.
The case took a violent turn when a local journalist, who reported the incident, was attacked by family members of one of the accused. One person has been arrested in connection with the attack.
Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev has demanded strict action, slashing out at attempts to cover up the case. “There should be no attempt to cover up this case ,” she tweeted.
The police have appealed for calm, urging people not to spread misinformation on social media. As the investigation unfolds, the victim’s family and supporters are demanding justice for the brutal assault.
