Congress takes out rallies in Jammu against ‘shirtless protest’ arrests in Delhi

Jammu: Congress workers held protests in Jammu city, condemning the arrest of Indian Youth Congress (IYC) chief Uday Bhanu Chib and others in connection with a “shirtless protest” at the AI impact summit in Delhi last week.

According to Kashmir Media Service, led by IIOJK Congress working president Raman Bhalla, the protesters demanded immediate release of the detained leaders.

Bhalla termed the arrest “illegal and arbitrary”, saying the Modi government has made the issue a matter of prestige. He said the Congress would continue its protest until Chib and other leaders are released, adding that the regime is acting out of fear and attempting to suppress dissent.

Congress spokesperson Ravinder Sharma condemned the arrest as “undemocratic”, saying IYC workers protested peacefully without resorting to violence. “We will protest across [occupied] Jammu and Kashmir till they are released,” he asserted. The protesters carried placards and raised slogans against the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with heavy police deployment deployed to prevent the march.
