Sikhs supporting Khalistan Movement protest against India at Connecticut

Connecticut: In the US state of Connecticut, Sikhs, supporting the Khalistan movement, protested against India and raised strong slogans against the Modi government’s policies, the killing of Sikh leaders, and atrocities on minorities.

According to Kashmir Media Service, on 18 April 2026, Indian-origin Sikh community, under the banner of the Sikh Coordination Committee of the US East Coast, protested against Indian oppression of Sikhs and other minorities in India in front of the Indian Consular Camp organized by the Indian Consulate General New York,

Earlier, the Indian Consulate General, New York, had shifted the location of the said Consular Camp in the backdrop of the announcement of protest by the Sikh Coordination Committee from Gurdwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib, Windsor Connecticut, to Broad Street, Windsor Connecticut.

The purpose of organizing the Consular Camp by the Indian Consulate General, New York, at Connecticut, was to provide passport, visa and document verification services to the Indian community.

Sikh members protested outside the camp against the involvement of Indian Consulates in transnational repression activities against Sikhs, including the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada and the assassination plot against Sikh separatist leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in New York.

The protesters chanted slogans against India, displayed banners and desecrated the Indian flag.

Sikhs living abroad, mainly in Canada, US, UK, and Australia, continue to complain about targeted killings and transnational repression by India’s RAW. Key cases include the 2023 assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada and the foiled plot against Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in the US.

Recent 2026 reports say Indian consular staff (one suspected RAW officer) in Vancouver gathered intelligence on Nijjar and shared it with handlers linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Nikhil Gupta pleaded guilty in the US to murder-for-hire in the Pannun case, facing up to 40 years.

Sikh groups demand charges against Indian officials and RAW personnel, citing surveillance, threats, and historical grievances. India in the name of counter-terrorism targeting Khalistan separatism. The Nijjar trial remains in pre-trial stage with Canada seeking to protect sensitive intelligence.
