Rajnath Singh’s contradictory remarks on Op Sindoor expose India’s dual narrative

New Delhi: Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s contradictory statements on terrorism have exposed the hypocrisy behind what India describes as the Operation Sindoor narrative.
According to Kashmir Media Service, at the SCO Defence Ministers’ Meeting in Bishkek on April 28, 2026, Singh claimed “terrorism has no nationality and no religion,” projecting India as a responsible actor. Yet two days later at a summit, he branded Pakistan the “epicentre of international terrorism,” politicising the issue he earlier said should remain beyond nationality or religion.
Analysts said Singh also claimed India halted Operation Sindoor “on its own terms” without succumbing to any “nuclear bluff,” despite conflicting battlefield narratives.
The inconsistency reflects a dual strategy: moderation before international stakeholders and hostility before domestic audiences, undermining India’s credibility.
