63rd death anniversary of Mirwaiz Molvi Atiqullah Shah observed in Srinagar

Srinagar: The 63rd death anniversary of Mirwaiz Molvi Atiqullah Shah (RA), former President of Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam, was observed with reverence in Srinagar.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam held a commemorative function where senior APHC leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who is also president of the Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam paid rich tributes to the late Mirwaiz. He described him as a visionary leader, spiritual guide and selfless servant of the community who devoted his life to the educational, religious and social upliftment of society.

Faculty, staff and students recalled his tenure as a “golden era” for the institution, noting that despite financial constraints from 1947 to 1962, he sustained the Anjuman’s mission through public support.

Speakers also highlighted his role in establishing Islamia College of Science and Commerce, which initially functioned within the Anjuman premises.

Meanwhile, Islamia Oriental College held a special Qur’an recitation and prayer gathering for the late Mirwaiz and former presidents of the Anjuman.
