UN urged to probe abduction and killing of Kashmiri youth by Indian Army

‎Islamabad : The Executive Director Kashmir Institute of International Relations (KIIR) Sardar Amjad Yousuf has called upon the United Nations Secretary General and the UN Human Rights Commissioner to order an independent investigation into the abduction and killing of a young Kashmiri youth by the Indian Army near the Line of Control (LoC).

According to Kashmir Media Service, in a letter addressed to the UN chief, KIIR Executive Director described the incident as a “false flag operation” aimed at portraying an innocent civilian as a militant in order to malign Pakistan and heighten tensions in the region.

‎The communique stated that the victim, Muhammad Amir son of Chaudhry Muhammad Shafi and a resident of Poonch, had been married only a month ago.

‎”Amir was abducted by Indian forces from his native village near the LoC during an ambush operation and was later killed in cold blood”, the letter said.

‎Mr. Yousuf said that Indian authorities subsequently attempted to label the deceased as a terrorist, a claim strongly rejected by the victim’s family, who maintained that Amir had no affiliation with any militant organization or political group.

‎The KIIR also condemned Indian media of disseminating “misleading and fabricated” reports regarding alleged firing in the Krishna Ghati sector.

‎Refuting the reports, he stated that no exchange of fire had taken place across the Line of Control.

‎Expressing concern over the growing incidents of targeted killing of civilians by the Indian army, the KIIR Executive Director said that innocent civilians were repeatedly being targeted under the pretext of counterterrorism operations. He maintained that such actions not only constitute serious human rights violations but also contribute to fear and instability among populations living along the LoC.

‎The letter noted that the recent killing had sparked anger and anxiety among residents of border areas already affected by recurring tensions and ceasefire violations.

‎Calling for urgent international intervention, the KIIR urged the United Nations to conduct a transparent, impartial, and independent inquiry into civilian killings along the Line of Control.

‎He further recalled that cross-LoC shelling and firing incidents in previous years had claimed the lives of hundreds of civilians, including daily wage workers employed in agricultural fields near the border.

‎Sardar Amjad Yousuf appealed to the UN Secretary-General and the UN Commissioner for human rights to use their good offices to help prevent further bloodshed, protect civilian populations, and discourage actions that could further destabilize the region.
