Speakers laud role of Kashmiri women in safeguarding cultural heritage

Islamabad: The pivotal role of Kashmiri women in safeguarding cultural heritage was lauded at a seminar hosted by the International Kashmir Lobby Group, the Youth Forum for Kashmir (YFK), in collaboration with the National University of Technology, in Islamabad, today.

The event was organized on the eve of International Women’s Day. The seminar was titled “International Women’s Day: A Tribute to the Resilience of Kashmiri Women.”

Speakers, including Dr. Shazia Sobia Aslam Soomro, Mussarat Rafique, Sana Mirza, Rabia Fajer Pasha, Abdul Hameed Lone, Dr. Noor Fatima, and Zaman Bajwa highlighted the importance of International Women’s Day and paid tribute to the resilience of Kashmiri women.

The event started with a powerful documentary screening that shed light on the struggles and triumphs of Kashmiri women.

Dr. Shazia Sobia Aslam Soomro, Member National Assembly, stressed the critical role Kashmiri women play in safeguarding cultural heritage and advocating for peace. Sana Mirza, senior anchorperson, emphasized the need for amplifying the voices of Kashmiri women and ensuring their participation in decision-making processes, while Abdul Hameed Lone, Hurriyat leader, commended the unbreakable spirit of Kashmiri women in the face of adversity.

He also addressed the tragic events of mass rape by Indian occupational forces like Kunan Poshpora incident.

Maj Gen Raz Ali Khan and AVM Muhammad Asif Aslam also graced the event and presented the Souvenirs to the speakers.

APHC-AJK leader Muhammad Zahid Safi, speaking at the Kashmir Conference in Sheikhupura, Punjab, emphasized that India’s Chanakya policy has consistently failed in Kashmir and is unlikely to succeed in the future. He highlighted the ongoing struggle in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, noting New Delhi’s mean tactics to undermine the resolve of Kashmiris through coercion and greed.
