Kargil Democratic Alliance calls for strike in Ladakh tomorrow

Kargil: The Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) has declared a half-day general strike in Ladakh, tomorrow, in solidarity with renowned education reformist Sonam Wangchuk.

According to Kashmir Media Servic,e Wangchuk’s hunger strike, now in its 13th day, advocates for statehood and constitutional rights for Ladakh, igniting a groundswell of support in the Ladakh region of occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Wangchuk, a prominent advocate for Ladakh’s constitutional protection, highlighted the dire situation, noting that 250 individuals braved freezing temperatures to underscore their plea for environmental preservation and the preservation of Ladakh’s indigenous culture.

In his message, Wangchuk criticized the Indian government, underscoring the disparity between rhetoric and action in Ladakh’s governance. He lamented the lack of democratic rights and excessive New Delhi’s control, drawing a stark analogy to a “Stepmother of Democracy.”

The strike, endorsed by the KDA, aims to amplify the ongoing agitation’s voice, calling for urgent attention to Ladakh’s demands. KDA co-chairman Qamar Ali Akhoon affirmed the decision, emphasizing the need to update the public on discussions with the government.

Asgar Ali Karbalai, also a co-chairman of the KDA, rebuffed attempts to divide Ladakh’s populace along communal lines, affirming the unified support for the agitation. He announced plans for joint leadership meetings in Leh or Kargil to strategize the way forward following the Indian government’s rejection of Ladakh’s primary demands.
