Outrage among Muslims after Mumbai college bans burqa
Mumbai: In another Islamophobic act in India under Narendra Modi, a college in Mumbai has sparked controversy by banning Muslim female students from wearing burqas on campus.
Accoridng to Kashmir Media Service, the decision by Maratha College has reignited debates around religious attire and freedom of expression. The ban has been met with anger and legal challenges from the Muslim community, with many arguing it violates their religious freedom and right to education without discrimination.
This is not the first time the college has imposed a ban on religious attire. Last year, a similar ban was enforced on junior college students, and there have been other incidents at educational institutions across India where Muslim students have been barred from wearing hijabs or burqas.
