Curfew in Odisha after communal violence, Internet services suspended
Balasore: Curfew remained in force in a town of Odisha state following a communal clash between Muslims and Hindutva BJP-RSS over rumors of cow slaughter.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the curfew was imposed and Internet services have also been halted, and social media access restricted due to tension on Monday in Balasore town of the state.
Indian police deployed additional forces to maintain order, with no fresh incidents of violence reported after the clash on Monday that left 20 persons injured, an official said in the northern Odisha town of Balasore
The Hindutva RSS, BJP, VHP, Shiv Sinha and Bajrang Dal goons attacked the Muslim community on Eid ul Azha day on suspicion of cow slaughter in the Patrapada and arson across neighbourhoods like Golapokhari, Motiganj, and Cinema Chhak areas.
The administration enforced Section 144 and later imposed a curfew as incidents spread. Balasore’s Police Superintendent, Sagarika Nath, confirmed multiple FIRs and 34 detentions, promising stringent legal action.
