Mirwaiz condemns ban on offering Eid prayers in Srinagar Jamia Masjid

Srinagar: All Parties Hurriyat Conference senior leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has strongly condemned the ban on the offering of Eid prayers in the historic Jamia Masjid, Srinagar, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir by the authorities.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, addressing the Friday congregation, today, said on one hand, the Modi government is making loud claims about the normalization of the situation in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, but on the other, offering Eid prayers in the Jamia Masjid has been banned for the past six years.

He said the authorities do not allow Kashmiri Muslims to offer Eid prayers in Srinagar Jamia Masjid. He added that the authorities were repeatedly hurting the sentiments of the Kashmiri Muslims by banning the offering of Friday prayers, Shab-e-Qadr and Friday prayers in Jamia Masjid, Srinagar.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said the Indian authorities are usurping the religious, human, political and social rights of the Kashmiris through military might.

Reiterating the demand for a solution to the long-pending Kashmir dispute through negotiations, he said Kashmiris are the fundamental party to the Kashmir dispute.

He said issues can never be resolved by use of force and war but can only be settled through dialogue, adding the Awami Majlis is working on the same principle.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq also welcomed America’s support for negotiations between India and Pakistan for settling all the issues, including Kashmir.
