Kashmiris face hardships as IIOJK authorities ignore basic needs

Srinagar: The residents of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir continue to endure significant hardships due to the authorities’ neglect in addressing their basic needs.

According to Kashmir Media Service, in Srinagar’s Batamaloo area, amid a severe heat wave, several localities are experiencing an acute shortage of drinking water. Residents from Mirabad, Salfia Colony, Khan Colony, Firdousabad, SD Colony, Mominabad, and neighboring areas such as Bypass, Solina, and Aalochibagh are grappling with an inadequate water supply.

“Amid the heat wave, we are facing severe water scarcity. Our taps are dry most of the time, and despite repeated requests to the authorities, our issues remain unaddressed,” the residents lamented.

They also highlighted concerns over contaminated water. “The water we receive is often contaminated, making us sick. We urge the authorities to enhance the water supply and ensure it is clean,” they stressed.

In Baramulla’s Boniyar area, residents are suffering following the suspension of passenger vehicle services by the authorities. This measure was taken after a tragic road accident on January 31 that claimed the lives of ten passengers. Despite six months passing since the incident, the village struggles to recover. Instead of receiving relief, the residents now face an undeclared suspension of bus services, exacerbating their hardships.

Speaking to the media, residents said that a road mishap should not result in the deprivation of essential services like passenger transport. Ghulam Rasool Mir, a local resident, recounted that following recent torrential rains, a house in the area collapsed, and the injured had to be transported to the hospital on shoulders due to the lack of vehicular movement.

The suspension of passenger vehicle services has forced locals to carry essential supplies, such as rice, over long distances on foot, highlighting their daily struggles.
