Kupwara village suffers due to apathy of IIOJK authorities
Srinagar: Nearly 5,000 residents of a village in Handwara area of Kupwara in IIOJK are grappling with severe disruptions and fatalities due to the apathy of authorities towards their basic needs.
According the Kashmir Media Service, the village of Reshwari suffers immensely due to the absence of a proper bridge over the perilous Mawar stream. This ongoing issue has claimed numerous lives and livestock, significantly impacting the 5,000 residents.
Reshwari, located nine kilometers from Handwara town, relies on a makeshift bridge that becomes treacherous during the April to July glacial melt. Residents recount tragic incidents, such as Bashir Ahmad losing his son, and a recent case involving a 7-year-old girl whose body remains unrecovered.
For decades, the residents have pleaded for a proper bridge, but no action has been taken by the occupation authorities. “We have been demanding the construction of this bridge for decades, yet our requests remain unmet,” the residents said.
Despite frequent claims of significant development in IIOJK often made by Indian political leaders and officials, the reality for Kashmiri villagers tells a different story. The Kashmiri residents’ appeals are met with indifference, highlighting a stark contrast between official claims and the on-ground reality.
