Right to self-determination fundamental right of Kashmiri people: Ayaz Sadiq

Islamabad: Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Saturday paid tribute to people of Indian occupied Jammu Kashmir for rendering sacrifices for their freedom and the right to self-determination.

In his message on the occasion of Kashmir Martyrs Day, he said, “July 13, 1931, 22 Kashmiris laid down their lives while facing the Dogra forces.” On this day (13th July) in 1931, the troops of Dogra Maharaja had killed 22 Kashmiris, one after the other, outside Central Jail in Srinagar during the court proceedings against one Abdul Qadeer who had asked Kashmiri people to defy the Dogra rule.

Thousands of people had gathered outside the court to show their solidarity with Abdul Qadeer. The speaker said that the people of Pakistan continue to remember the sacrifices of their Kashmiri brothers and sisters. He said that the struggle against India’s unlawful occupation of Jammu and Kashmir continues to this day. “History has witnessed that attempts to silence the voices of Kashmiris through force have failed,” he added. He strongly condemned the Indian governments attempts to alter the demographic structure of Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that such plans would never succeed. “The right to self-determination is a fundamental right of the Kashmiri people,” he stated. The Speaker demanded that India end its inhumane atrocities in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir and urged the international community to take action against Indias blatant violations of human rights.

He also appealed to the global community to play its role in resolving the dispute in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions. “Pakistan will continue to extend full moral, political, and diplomatic support to our Kashmiri brothers and sisters,” he affirmed. K
