Violence, protests bring trade between India and Bangladesh near standstill
Dhaka,: The escalating violence in Bangladesh has had a ripple effect on Indian nationals, with students, traders, and businesses facing significant disruptions.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian students enrolled in medical programs in Bangladesh are returning to India due to the deteriorating situation, with many unsure about the future of their studies.
Trade between India and Bangladesh has also come to a near standstill, with business activities at the Petrapole border, the largest land port in India and South Asia, almost completely halted. Traders estimate daily losses of around Rs 150 crore, with annual trade through the Petrapole and Benapole border amounting to approximately Rs 30,000 crore.
The violence has also affected communication channels, with internet services shut down in Bangladesh, further exacerbating the situation. Indian traders are facing difficulties with food, accommodation, and security threats, with at least 300 goods vehicles from various states stuck in Bangladesh.
The situation remains uncertain, with traders looking forward to calming down the situation and restarting business activities at the earliest.
