INDIA bloc will push for legal guarantee of MSP in Parliament: Rahul Gandhi
New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in the Indian Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has announced that the Congress party and the INDIA bloc allies will advocate for a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Prices (MSP) in Parliament.
According to Kashmir Media Service, this announcement came a day after the Indian Finance Minister presented the Indian Budget.
Rahul Gandhi met with a delegation of 12 farmer leaders from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu at the Parliament House. The farmers voiced their concerns about the MSP and other agricultural issues.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Rahul Gandhi emphasized the importance of a legal framework for MSP, stating, “We have mentioned in our manifesto about a legal guarantee for MSP, which can be implemented without any hassles.” He added that the Congress and the INDIA bloc partners would work together to pressure the government to enact legislation on MSP.
The Congress manifesto reiterates this commitment, promising a legal guarantee for MSP as recommended by the Swaminathan Commission. It also pledges that the MSP payable to farmers at procurement centers and agricultural produce market committees will be credited directly to their bank accounts.
