Does Modi want to rule IIOJK from Delhi in perpetuity, Congress flays IIOJK budget
New Delhi: The Congress party has criticized the Modi government for its handling of the occupied Jammu and Kashmir budget, accusing Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman of “unprecedented fiscal mismanagement”.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said that the budget documents reveal astonishing details, including a five-fold increase in borrowings over the last two years and a fiscal deficit that has more than tripled the original estimate.
Ramesh also questioned the government’s decision to take over the entire burden of the police budget in IIOJK, asking if this reflects the government’s intention to rule the state from Delhi in perpetuity.
The Congress leader posed several questions to the Finance Minister, including why the government has been “benevolent” to Andhra Pradesh and Bihar but not to J&K, and how the grim reality of the state’s finances squares up with the increasing tax/GDP ratio.
Ramesh expressed hope that the next IIOJK budget would be presented in the IIOJK legislature.
