Mirwaiz for turning mosques into centers of religious, social & political activities
Srinagar: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has emphasized the crucial role of masajid in promoting unity, education, and addressing social issues among youth in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq made these remarks during the foundation-laying ceremony for the renovation of the historic Haji Abdul Salam Qalandar Sahib Masjid in the Kadal area of Srinagar.
Mirwaiz stressed that masajid should serve as centers for social reform, religious, communal, social, and political activities, citing the Prophet’s Mosque (PBUH) as a role model. He urged the people of Kashmir to ensure that mosque doors remain open to all Muslim sects and communities and emphasized the importance of allocating areas for women to engage in worship, sermons, and guidance.
He also highlighted the need for religious schools or madrasas alongside every masjid to educate the new generation in both contemporary and religious sciences. Mirwaiz expressed concern over the rising social evils and called upon masjid imams, preachers, and local committees to work towards preventing them.
The Mirwaiz was warmly welcomed by a large crowd during his visit to the area after a long period of six to seven years.
