Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and other Hurriyat leaders have sharply condemned India’s actions in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), asserting that Kashmir’s disputed status remains undeniable by New Delhi or any global power.
APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, in a statement issued in Srinagar, strongly criticized Omar Abdullah’s remarks during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to IIOJK. Minhas called Abdullah’s statements an insult to the Kashmiris who voted for him, expecting him to raise the political rights of the Kashmiri people. He emphasized that the Kashmir dispute is a reality that no power, including India, can deny.
Other Hurriyat leaders, including Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Dr. Musaib, Imtiyaz Rishi, imprisoned Fayaz Hussain Jafri, Maulana Maulana Syed Sibte Shabbir Qummi, as well as the Democratic Freedom Party, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, Muslim League, Kashmir Tehreek-e-Khawateen, Insaf Party, and Democratic Freedom Front, also condemned Abdullah’s position. They pointed out that Kashmiris voted for the National Conference due to its anti-Modi stance and pro-Kashmir policies, only for Omar Abdullah to disappoint the electorate by aligning himself with Modi.
The leaders accused Omar Abdullah of duplicity, labeling him and his forefathers as traitors to the Kashmiri people who have long exploited their sentiments. They denounced Abdullah for praising Modi, a figure they describe as the architect of the revocation of Kashmir’s special status and the erosion of Kashmiri identity and rights.
Leaders emphasized that Modi’s visit to Kashmir was nothing more than an attempt to further the anti-Kashmir agenda of the RSS. They described Modi as the face of Indian oppression in the territory, adding that the so-called development mantra peddled by the Modi regime is merely a facade to conceal the ongoing repression and occupation.
The leaders reiterated that Kashmiris do not seek development under occupation but demand the right to self-determination through a plebiscite under United Nations auspices. They stated that Modi’s visit was a continuation of India’s oppression and deceit, and that he remains a symbol of oppression in Kashmir.
The statement concluded by rejecting the notion that Indian leaders’ visits or speeches from local collaborators could alter the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir. The leaders called for a resolution of the Kashmir issue that reflects the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, in line with UN resolutions, and urged the international community to recognize India’s illegal occupation and stand in solidarity with Kashmiris.
The Convener of APHC-AJK chapter, Ghulam Muhammad Safi, along with other Hurriyat leaders, also criticized Omar Abdullah for praising Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They stated that his comments were an insult to the Kashmiri people, and he should apologize to them.
The criticism stemmed from Omar Abdullah’s remarks during the inauguration of the Z-10 tunnel in Srinagar, where he praised Modi for his ability to deliver on his promises. Hurriyat leaders pointed out that Modi’s hands are stained with the blood of Kashmiris and that Abdullah’s praise for him was akin to adding salt to Kashmiris’ wounds. They emphasized that Omar Abdullah’s actions amounted to dishonoring the Kashmiri people, and he should seek their forgiveness
