Modi govt’s persecution of minorities: Church demolished in Uttar Pradesh
Lucknow: Authorities in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh have demolished a church over allegations of illegal conversion activities, intensifying concerns about the Modi government’s treatment of minorities.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the demolition was carried out on land reportedly designated for the forest department in Mirzapur area of UP.
Police claimed the church was constructed without permission on land designated for the forest department and was subject to multiple complaints about conversion activities. Police Superintendent Abhinandan defended the action, stating, “We took action in response to these complaints, as the church was illegally built.”
The demolition has sparked outrage among minority and human rights organizations, who argue that this action represents a broader pattern of persecution against religious minorities under the Modi administration. These groups are calling for a thorough investigation and stronger protections for religious freedom in India, highlighting ongoing concerns about the marginalization and targeting of minority communities.
