India seals Punjab border to thwart farmers’ protest

Amritsar: Indian authorities, rattled by farmers’ endless protests, sealed the Punjab border at Tatiana and Sangatpura checkpoints to prevent the community from attending a mahapanchayat in Uchana, Jind.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the border closure halted traffic, causing inconvenience to locals and travelers. Commuters were forced to take alternative routes in poor condition.

The heavy police deployment, including paramilitary forces, sparked resentment among locals, commuters, and farmers. Farmer leader Jarnail Singh condemned the blockade, stating, “A peaceful mahapanchayat was planned, but the BJP government, fearing the farmers’ gathering, closed all major routes connecting Punjab to Haryana.”

The police action significantly disrupted traffic flow and daily life in the region.
