Budgam residents protest against long power cuts
Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, residents of Aripanthan village in Beerwah, Budgam district, staged a protest against prolonged power cuts.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the protesters demanded the provision of a separate electric feeder for their village. The villagers stated that the Power Development Department (PDD) had promised an uninterrupted power supply when acquiring land from locals for the station’s construction. However, the PDD has failed to fulfill its pledge, they said.
Protesters gathered at the receiving station, raising slogans and urging authorities to fulfill their commitment. They claimed that instead of providing Aripanthan with its promised feeder, several neighboring villages were added to the existing feeder, exacerbating power shortages and causing low voltage issues in their area.
The villagers have struggled with unreliable electricity for years, to no avail.
