Ali Raza Syed urges EU to address HR violations in IIOJK
Brussels: Ali Raza Syed, Chairman of Kashmir Council EU, has urged senior European Union officials to use their influence to stop ongoing human rights violations in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Ali Raza Syed wrote separate letters to European Council President Antonio Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee David McAllister, and Chair of the European Parliament Subcommittee on Human Rights Mounir Satouri.
In his letters, Ali Raza Syed appealed to the European officials to pressurize India to halt the human rights violations in IIOJK and to demand the unconditional release of all Kashmiri prisoners detained in Indian jails.
The letters emphasized that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights serves as a common standard for the fundamental rights of all people and nations, but India, which claims to be the world’s largest democracy, continues to perpetrate serious human rights violations in occupied territory. These include extrajudicial killings by Indian military forces, fake encounters resulting in the killing of Kashmiri youth, denial of their bodies to their families, and the arbitrary detention of civilians, political leaders, human rights activists, and journalists on false charges.
Ali Raza Syed assured that Kashmir Council EU will continue to raise its voice against India’s ongoing human rights violations in occupied Kashmir, and will advocate for the release of Kashmiri political prisoners and the right to self-determination for the Kashmiri people. He emphasized that a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir conflict, in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people, is essential for lasting peace in the region.
