Organized rigging being planned by removing minority voters from list in Bihar: Opposition
New Delhi: The issue of revision of voter lists under the controversial law Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the Indian state of Bihar has created a huge stir in the country’s politics.
According to Kashmir Media Service, there is a strong protest against this law in the Indian Parliament, while the Congress and the India Alliance have indicated a boycott of the elections.
The opposition says that the Modi government has turned an important institution like the Election Commission into a political weapon instead of keeping it neutral.
The opposition claims that organized rigging is being planned by removing minority voters from the list before the Bihar elections, which is a clear violation of the Indian Constitution. According to the Constitution, every adult citizen has the equal right to vote, which is being violated by the current government.
Leader of Opposition in Parliament Rahul Gandhi has strongly criticized the Election Commission and said the Election Commission no longer seems to be an institution of India and it is not doing its job. He said the registration of thousands of new voters at the age of 60 is actually part of the systematic theft of votes.
Congress’s Bihar in-charge Krishna Alavaru termed the entire process as authoritarian and said the data released by the Election Commission is completely wrong.
According to him, this entire process has been organized to steal votes and elections and this is not just a problem of Bihar but is becoming a dangerous trend of the entire country.
According to the Election Commission report, 60.1 lakh voters have been declared deceased, transferred or dually registered, which is raising serious concerns.
According to Indian media, in some places, BJP officers and booth-level officers are making changes in the voter list by filling out forms on their own.
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has called boycotting the assembly elections an open option, while Deputy Opposition Leader of Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi says that the government’s silence is proof of snatching the votes of the people.
The deliberate exclusion of minority voters from the list is being called a clear violation of democratic principles.
Critics say that after the NRC and CAA, the SIR policy is actually another attempt to target the citizenship of minorities.
Political observers say the Modi government is pursuing an agenda of turning India into an extremist state of Hindutva ideology, which is having an impact not only on Bihar but also on the democracy of the entire country.
