Tension remains high in Imphal following fresh rounds of firing from Sinam Kom Hills

Imphal: Tension remains high in Manipur’s Imphal East district following fresh rounds of firing reported from the Sinam Kom Hills.

According to Kashmir Media Service, several rounds were fired, prompting Indian forces to intensify surveillance and monitoring in nearby locations. No casualties have been reported so far.

This is the third such incident at the same hill range since the formation of the new State Government. Earlier, firing incidents were reported on the night of February 4 and again on the morning of February 5, indicating a troubling pattern of repeated provocation.

The firing is reportedly emanating from the Mark Hill range, with concerns raised about threats to nearby villages in the Khundrakpam area.

The Inpui Naga Youth Organisation (INYO) condemned the “indiscriminate gunfire” in the Waphong area, saying that militants are targeting civilians and operating from locations surrounding poppy cultivation sites.

Meanwhile, the Khundrakpam Kendra Youths’ Organisation (KHUKYO), in a press release, said the Indian government has failed to effectively control the situation.

KHUKYO also expressed apprehension that the farmhouse of Chief Minister Y Khemchand, located at Ishingthembi Village, could be targeted if adequate security measures are not taken.

So far, no official statement has been issued by the state authorities or security agencies regarding the incident. The situation remains tense, with security forces maintaining a heightened state of alert in the region.
