IIOJK Anganwadi workers receive paltry Rs 600 top-up, lagging behind Indian states

Srinagar: Community workers for women and children development known as Anganwadi Workers in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir receive a meager Rs 600 monthly top-up, starkly contrasting with Indian states like Haryana, which provides up to Rs 10,250. This disparity highlights the territory’s neglect, as revealed in Lok Sabha data.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Haryana tops the list with a monthly top-up of Rs 10,250, followed by Telangana (Rs 9,150), Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra (Rs 8,500 each), Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka (Rs 7,000 each), and Ladakh (Rs 1,300). In contrast, IIOJK’s Rs 600 top-up is among the lowest, underscoring the regional disparities in support for frontline workers.
The data was presented in Lok Sabha in response to a question by Indian Minister of State for Women and Child Development Savitri Thakur.
The AWWs, who are honorary workers drawn from local communities, receive a monthly honorarium of Rs 4,500, with performance-linked incentives of Rs 500.
The issue has sparked concerns about the neglect of IIOJK workers, who are among the lowest-paid under India.
