Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference has said that Indian BJP government measures, like evicting locals from their lands and settling outsiders there, are in violation of United Nations resolutions in the internationally disputed territory of occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Abdul Rashid Minhas, in a statement issued in Srinagar, deplored that India was completely disregarding the Kashmiris’ right to decide their political future as per UN Security Council resolutions and was instead taking measures to change the demographic composition of the occupied territory.
Jammu and Kashmir was divided illegally into two UTs against the wishes of the Kashmiri people. Besides, the spokesman added, they are being deprived of their democratic rights by the BJP government. He termed it BJP’s deliberate move to divert attention from real issue of the Kashmir dispute.
APHC said that Kashmir is not an internal matter of India but an international issue as recognized by UN resolutions that needs to be resolved in its historical perspective.
The spokesman said the internationally recognized status of the Kashmir dispute is an established fact and there is no doubt about it. The August 5, 2019, illegal moves can’t change the fact that Jammu and Kashmir is not India’s internal matter but an international issue, he added.
The statement said India’s hegemonic mindset is stopping it from accepting that Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed territory and New Delhi’s August 5, 2019, actions are in contravention of UN resolutions.
APHC lamented that India was completely disregarding the Kashmiris’ right to decide their future as per UN resolutions and its plan to change the demographic structure of Indian Illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir is in flagrant violation of UN resolutions.
For 78 years, he added, Kashmiris have waited in vain for justice as India continues to trample their rights and perpetuate brutal repression in the occupied territory.
The spokesman said that the Modi regime’s apartheid policies have led to unprecedented atrocities, with systematic human rights violations committed with impunity by Indian troops. Despite the bloodshed and oppression, Kashmiris remain resolute, refusing to surrender to Indian military might. He deplored the international community’s silence, which has only emboldened India to escalate its crackdown.
APHC said India must be pressured to honor international commitments on Kashmir, adding it is high time for the UN to accept its responsibility and help resolve the lingering Kashmir dispute according to its own resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
