Elderly Muslim man booked for criticising Yogi, Modi in UP

Meerut: Indian police in Uttar Pradesh arrested a 70-year-old Muslim man named Ehsaan within 24 hours after a video of him criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath went viral.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Ehsaan made the remarks during an interview with a local channel after Eid al-Adha prayers on May 28. He condemned certain BJP policies, called Yogi Adityanath a “gunda”, and objected to appeals for singing the slogan “Vande Mataram”.
Police arrested him on May 29. A video later released by police showed the elderly man limping and holding his ears in a gesture of apology.
The incident triggered online debate after it was contrasted with another case in Meerut the same day, where a youth named Puneet falsely claimed that meat was thrown outside his house.
CCTV footage later revealed he had placed the bag himself, yet he was only given a warning by police.
