Cancer cases rise in IIOJK

Srinagar: Cancer cases are steadily rising across Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, with breast, lung and gastrointestinal cancers posing a major public health challenge, health experts say.
According to Kashmir Media Service, gastric cancer in particular remains highly prevalent in the Kashmir Valley.
The Council of Medical Research has invited proposals for a 4-year study titled “Prevention and Screening of Oral, Breast, Cervical and Gastrointestinal Cancers in J&K” to address late diagnosis.
The programme will expand screening through district hospitals, PHCs, CHCs and Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, targeting women 30+ for breast/cervical cancer, adults 18+ for oral cancer, and 40+ for gastrointestinal cancers, while training ASHAs and frontline workers for early detection.
