Ban on liquor in Ladakh demanded

Kargil: Jamiat Ulama Isna Asharia Kargil (JUIAK) has strongly opposed the new Excise Policy introduced in Ladakh and demanded an immediate ban on the sale and distribution of liquor in the region.

According to Kashmir Media Service, JUIAK General Secretary Sheikh Ibrahim Khalili and Political Incharge Sajjad Kargili, addressing a press conference, expressed serious concern over the administration’s decision to open liquor shops in Ladakh.

They urged the administration to immediately withdraw the move, stating that promoting liquor sales is against the cultural, social, and religious values of Ladakh’s people. The leaders said liquor has no place in Ladakhi society and that opening liquor outlets under the new excise policy would have negative consequences for the younger generation and society at large.
