India’s unilateral suspension of Indus Waters Treaty worrying, provocative move: Ishaq Dar
Manila: Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Ishaq Dar has said that India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty is a worrying and provocative move.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Muhammad Ishaq Dar addressing the ASEAN Regional Forum in Manila expressed concern over India’s decision to unilaterally suspend the Indus Waters Treaty and said that using water as a weapon is endangering the lives and livelihoods of 240 million Pakistanis.
He said that a just solution to the conflict in occupied Jammu and Kashmir in accordance with UN resolutions is the basis for lasting peace in South Asia, and Pakistan will continue its unwavering support for a just solution to the Kashmir issue.
He said the Jammu and Kashmir conflict is the core issue of regional instability between Pakistan and India, the solution of which should be in accordance with the United Nations Charter, Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Terming terrorism as a common threat to the entire world, he said Pakistan has been playing a leading role in the fight against global terrorism. He said Pakistan has sacrificed more than 80,000 lives in the war on terrorism and It has suffered an economic loss of more than $150 billion.
The Deputy Prime Minister said terrorism from Afghan soil is a serious security challenge for Pakistan and the region. He said that TTP, Fitna Hindustan and BLA are using Afghan soil against Pakistan and Pakistan’s only expectation from the Afghan Taliban government is that it should not allow its soil to be used for terrorism.
Ishaq Dar also appealed to the ARF member countries to play an effective role in this regard. He said Pakistan is committed to regional peace, stability and cooperation through the ASEAN Regional Forum and reiterated its support for the effective implementation of the Manila Plan of Action 2036.
