Modi acting at his will on foreign policy: Kharge

Kalaburagi: Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and Congress chief, Mallikarjun Kharge, has said that the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, was acting “at his will” on matters of foreign policy.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mallikarjun Kharge said this while speaking to the reporters in Kalaburagi city in the Indian state of Karnataka in response to a question about the ongoing row between India and Maldives.

The Congress leader said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is taking everything personally. “At the international level, we should keep a good relationship with our neighbours. We should act according to time. We cannot change our neighbours,” he said, adding, “PM Modi is conducting at his will the matters of foreign policy.”

Kharge further said that PM Modi embraces anyone at any time and he will also slam people at his will. “However, we don’t change people who are around us. We have to be together and move ahead. But, when he attacks us, we have to be ready to face and protest in the interest of the country,” he added.

It is worth mentioning here that India had recently summoned the Maldives envoy after three ministers of the island nation made “derogatory” remarks against Narendra Modi with one of them describing Modi as ‘clown’ and a ‘puppet of Israel’.

A Maldivian lawmaker criticised Modi following his visit to Lakshadweep, a tropical archipelago of 36 atolls and coral reefs in the Laccadive Sea, off the coast of Kerala, India, inferring that New Delhi is attempting to project the Union Territory as an alternative tourist destination to the Maldives. Two other Maldivian ministers also shared derogatory remarks along with PM Modi’s photos from Lakshadweep. The three ministers India blamed for ‘derogatory remarks” include Maryam Shiuna, Malsha Shareef and Mahzoom Majid.
