Seminar & rally held in Muzaffarabad to denounce mass rape tragedy in IIOJK

Muzaffarabad: The International Forum for Justice and Human Rights organized a seminar and protest rally in Muzaffarabad to denounce the Kunan Poshpora mass rape by Indian troops on the eve of the anniversary of the tragic incident in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the event shed light on the atrocities committed against Kashmiri women by Indian forces on the nights of February 22 and 23, 1991, in Kunan Poshpora area of Kupwara district.

The seminar, chaired by the Vice Chairman of the Forum, Harit Rahnama Mushtaq-ul-Islam, and attended by special guest and Minister of Azad Kashmir Government, Imtiaz Naseem, aimed to bring international attention to the plight of Kashmiri women and seek justice for the victims of the heinous crime.

Several prominent figures addressed the audience during the seminar and rally. Director of Liberation Cell, Raja Sajjad Latif Khan, Vice Chairman of Pasban-e-Hurriyat, Usman Ali Hashmi, Principal of Amirah Yusuf Institute, Samia Sajid, leader of Muslim Conference, Samia Chishti, and representatives from various women’s organizations including Myra Khan, Humaira Altaf, Ayesha Iman, Fariha Islam, and Amina Tariq shared their thoughts and concerns.

Speakers emphasized the ongoing struggle of Kashmiri women for their rights despite facing immense oppression. They highlighted the sacrifices made by these women and their families, with many losing their husbands, sons, and brothers in the struggle for Kashmir’s freedom.

The seminar concluded with a passionate protest rally where participants chanted slogans demanding justice for the women of Kunan Poshpora and an end to the oppression by Indian forces in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
