Second IIT Assam student hailing from IIOJK detained over ISIS allegations
New Delhi: The Assam Special Task Force (STF) has arrested Sohail-ur-Rehman, a student at IIT Assam hailing from Jammu, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, for additional interrogation.
According to Kashmir Media Service, this action follows the recent arrest of another student, Tauseef Ali Farooqui from IIT Guwahati, who allegedly expressed support for ISIS on social media.
The STF team, led by Kamrup Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Kumar Pathak, visited Lohit Hostel in IIT Guwahati to interrogate Sohail and gather more information.
Tauseef Ali Farooqui, meanwhile, remains in police custody after being arrested for his online support of ISIS. The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has disclosed that another student from IIT Guwahati is also under scrutiny by security agencies.
