Psychological toll of conflict: 17-year-old girl takes her life in Kupwara
Srinagar: The ongoing distress caused by frequent cordon and search operations, along with raids and arrests targeting Kashmiri youth, has resulted in yet another tragic incident in occupied Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
According to Kashmir Media Service, a 17-year-old girl, whose identity has not been disclosed, has taken her own life by hanging herself at her home in the Ashpora Handwara area.
Despite desperate attempts by her family to intervene, rushing her to a nearby hospital, the girl was pronounced dead upon arrival at GMC Handwara by attending doctors.
This devastating event casts a somber shadow over the community, shedding light on the profound mental health challenges faced by individuals, particularly the youth, in conflict-ridden regions like Kashmir.
In a separate incident in the Kushal area of Kishtwar district, tragedy struck as one person lost their life and another was critically injured after the van they were traveling in rolled down. These incidents serve as poignant reminders of the fragility of life and underscore the urgent need for enhanced support systems for those grappling with despair and adversity in the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
