Over 500 families displaced after land-sinking in Ramban, IIOJK
Jammu: More than 500 people have been displaced as a result of continued land-sinking in Parnote village of Ramban district in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, over 58 houses were completely damaged due to land sinking in the village. The natural calamity hit the Pernote village on Thursday evening. Following heavy rains, the affected families have been forced to leave the area and live in the open, with some families taking shelter in the houses of their relatives and neighbors.
Deputy Commissioner Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary said, “As the land subsidence continued, a total of 100 families, along with their livestock, have left the village so far.”
The land subsidence at km 5 on Thursday evening blocked the Ramban-Gool road. Power supply was also affected in many areas as a 33 kv receiving station, three to four HT towers, and five dozen houses were damaged due to continuous land subsidence in the Parnote area of Ramban.
The area in some places in Parnote sank 20 to 30 meters, disrupting all agricultural activities.
Due to the sinking process, a large number of pine trees were also uprooted.
