Family alleges murder after youth’s drowning triggers protest in Udhampur
Jammu: The mysterious death of a youth due to drowning in the Tawi River in Udhampur district of the Jammu region has sparked a protest by his family members, who allege murder and have blocked the Dhar road in the district.
According to the police, the deceased, identified as Akhil Kumar (20) of Udhampur, had gone to collect sand from the Tawi River with two others when the tragic incident occurred. Akhil Kumar, who worked as a tractor driver, and his two helpers were bathing in the river while collecting sand when Kumar suddenly slipped into deep water and drowned.
However, the deceased’s family members alleged foul play, insisting that Akhil Kumar was murdered. They staged a protest and blocked the Dhar Road, demanding a thorough investigation. The demonstration persisted for over an hour. The incident unfolded last evening in the Dibber area, falling under the jurisdiction of the Udhampur Police Station.
Following a postmortem examination, Kumar’s body was handed over to his family members for final rites.
