PDP leader Waheed Para booked for ‘referendum’ remark at election rally

Srinagar: Waheed Para, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency candidate, has been booked for his “referendum” remarks, which the Modi-led India government has described as violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

According to Kashmir Media Service, Para held a roadshow in Pulwama on April 27 without, what he has been charged, prior permission from the authorities, leading to the filing of an FIR at Pulwama police station on May 8. The FIR was lodged under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code for disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant.

Additionally, Para was served a notice by the election department for his statement asking Kashmiri people to consider elections as a “referendum” at the election rally. The election department deemed the remarks a violation of the code of conduct.
