Tribute paid to Mirwaiz Farooq, Ghani Lone and Hawal martyrs
Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference has paid rich tributes to prominent martyred Hurriyat leaders, Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone and the Hawal martyrs on the eve of their martyrdom anniversaries.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Molvi Farooq was assassinated by unidentified gunmen at his residence in Srinagar on May 21, 1990. On the same day, over 70 mourners were martyred when Indian troops opened indiscriminate fire on his funeral procession in the Hawal area of Srinagar. Twelve years later, on May 21, 2002, unknown attackers shot dead Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone when he was returning after addressing a gathering at the Martyrs’ Graveyard in Srinagar.
The APHC leaders, in their statements issued in Srinagar, emphasized that Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone and other martyrs of the freedom movement are the heroes of the Kashmiri people. They reiterated the Kashmiris’ resolve to accomplish the mission of their martyrs at all costs.
The APHC leaders appealed to the Kashmiri people to hold special prayers for the departed souls. Additionally, they highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by pro-freedom leaders and political prisoners in Kashmir, urging the UN, International Committee of Red Cross and other human rights bodies to intervene and save the lives of the Kashmiri people.
Meanwhile, the Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam in a statement in Srinagar, paying tribute to prominent martyred Hurriyat leader, Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq in strong words, said the martyred leader live in the hearts and minds of the Kashmiri people.
He also expressed its profound grief and sorrow over the deaths of Iranian President Sayyid Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and other Iranian officials in a helicopter crash.
The APHC-AJK leaders including Muhammad Sultan Butt, Altaf Ahmed Butt and Uzair Gazali in their separate statements said, the assassination of the leaders was followed by the killing of many prominent scholars, intellectuals, human rights defenders, academics and social workers. They said India under a well-planned conspiracy is eliminating pro-freedom leaders to render the ongoing Kashmir freedom movement leaderless.
