Protest in Jammu against power shortages, electricity bill hikes
Jammu: Congress leader, Taranjit Singh Tony, led a protest demonstration in Jammu against the power shortage and steep hikes in electricity bills that are burdening farmers in the region.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the protestors gathered in front of the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) RS Pura and raised slogans demanding a proper electricity supply.
Addressing the crowd, Tony highlighted the severe impact of unscheduled power cuts on the lives and livelihoods of both farmers and the general public in the border villages.
“While the farmers are facing financial distress, the Electricity Department has unexpectedly raised electricity bills. Previously, farmers received hefty bills, which have now surged by 200 percent, making them unbearable,” the Congress leader stated.
Tony urged the concerned department to ensure a smooth power supply until the paddy season concludes, suggesting that the regularization of connections should follow this period. This, he argued, would allow farmers to manage their resources more effectively.
