Call for justice: NC demands impartial probe into youth’s custodial death in Pulwama

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the National Conference (NC) has called for an impartial investigation into the death of a youth while in police custody in Pulwama district.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the civilian identified as Imtiaz Ahmed Pala, a mechanic by profession, was tortured to death at Litter Police Station in the district. He was picked by the police on Tuesday and was thereafter killed in custody.

The NC emphasized the necessity of a fair judicial inquiry to ensure accountability and justice for the victim.

The party stated on X, “The details emerging from this case are deeply distressing. The NC calls for an impartial judicial inquiry into the incident to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice and face the full force of the law”.

The police have yet to comment on the circumstances surrounding Pala’s death, but his family says that he died due to torture endured while in custody.

Earlier, Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti also demanded an impartial investigation into the incident.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage and concern.

It is worth mentioning here that thousands of Kashmiris have perished in Indian forces-run interrogation centers in the last 34 years in IIOJK. Indian forces’ personnel, under the protection of draconian laws, have killed 96308 Kashmiris, including 7336 in custody, since 1989. It is widely believed that custodial killings in the occupied territory are meant to create fear psychosis among the Kashmiris so that they relinquish their struggle for securing their right to self-determination. However, the Kashmiri people are determined to carry on their just struggle till accomplishment of the sacred goal.
